The Cherry Blossom Diaries

The contractions are coming thick and fast now, the pain is strong, still no sign of Sakura.
May 5th, 2007
3:10 a.m.
This is the second time to come to the hospital tonight. The first time was a false call. This time however Sakura helped us out a bit by breaking the water so the rush was well and truly on.
We are now waiting for the contractions to get closer in a tatami room just next to the delivery room. Sakura is healthy, Maki is tired and in a lot of pain. I hope it ends soon!
After a lot of pushing contractions, the mid wife announced surprisingly that the cervix was fully dilated! Time for the final push!
We had planned on a tatami room birth but after brief consideration of ease logistics we decided on the birthing chair.
When we moved to the room for the “final push” I went to the toilet and almost missed the whole thing!
Sakura was out within 10 minutes! The doctor couldn’t be found so our midwife, Eda san was it! She did a great job.
Maki in the meantime was pushing away solid as a rock.
Saki chan came out to say hello in time for breakfast.
It was a surreal experience, I felt like I was floating while I cut the cord!
The time – 5:29 a.m.
The weight – 2880 grams
The length – 47.3 cm
We then moved to the room, a new family, the two girls and me.
Breastfeeding
is rampant!
What a day!
First bath is tomorrow.
Thanks Daddy for filling in the preliminaries, I’ll take over from here…..
Take a look at this little video, her is your Cheery Blossom Princess at barely a minute old!
My name is Sakura Grace Crabbe, I am the boss and milking is my job!

Bath class with Daddy!
A few slips, a few cries, loads of photos by Mummy and buckets of water! What fun! And a clean baby Saki at the end of it all.
Today in breast feeding class Mummy and I came first in all disciplines; efficiency, yield and positioning. I got 40 ccs in 15 minutes whereas the competition only got about 7!
But that’s nothing, the next day I set the new Adachi (hospital) record, formerly 42 ccs in 15 minutes, the new undisputed breast sucking champion is Sakura Grace Crabbe with an almighty 66 ccs!

Coming home day!
All bags packed, bills paid, thank yous said, taxi called……away we go to the outside world!
Taxis are cool! As are clouds and the sky and wow everything!
So anyway the nice taxi man (who looked like anpan man!) dropped us off at my princess castle. Mummy was nervous but Daddy and I were as cool as ice!
Opened the door and there it was, the abode!
I was relaxed immediately, Mummy put me on my soft as marshmallows sheep skin, sleep was knocking, I relinquished…….
Days come and days go…
Milk rocks!
Today is Mummy’s first mothers’ day.
Celebration in the air, Where’s the milk?
Daddy and I say thank you to Mummy with big hugs and kisses.
All’s well around the house.
Daddy’s off for a week so I get to throw up on him for seven whole days, cool!
Today I learnt how to projectile vomit, maximum exposure!
Mummy and Daddy are taking plenty of photos, I can’t always be cute but I try…. 23rd May, 2007No entry for a while, it’s been quite hectic around the abode. Dad took that week off but now he’s back at the pub.I love Mummy, nothing is a problem for her. Sometimes I wake her up three or four times in the wee hours of the morning with a gentle chunder in between her and Dad.I’m in the comfort zone when I’m drinking from Mum. Is there anything else better in this world? No, seriously!?Baaba (Grandma) came down from Iwate to check me out and to give a little Cherry Blossom support to Mummy and Daddy. Is she lovely or what!?
She says I’m going to be a concert pianist because of my long fingers or maybe even an opera singer because of my (still to be developed) rhythmic melotones!Everyone is saying that I am half Japanese and half Australian but which half!?They also say that I look a lot like Daddy, so he goes around calling me Mini Matt! I mean seriously! I am Sakura Grace, get it right big fella!Great Grandma Iwata made me a kimono (and a matching pouch for toys and all that important stuff) with her very own two hands! Every stitch was done by her. The result is beautiful, so much love and passion gone into such a small garment. The fabric was taken from her own kimono which she used to wear and the lining is pretty pink just like a cherry blossom. She sent it down in a box made by her as well, it has a pretty giraffe on the cover. She asked Mummy to put it in a place where I could see it when I wake from my princess slumber because she doesn’t want me to feel lonely when I awaken and nobody is close by. Mr Giraffe, my guardian………When Great Grandma goes walking she places a photo of me next to her heart and says that she feels my weight she also sings me lullabies that she used to sing Mummy when she was a little princess just like me. How sweet is that!?All of my family in Japan and Australia seem really excited that I am amongst them.Plans are in place to start wrapping them around my pretty pianist finger but it doesn’t look like I will have to try too hard.

Summer has hit and Saki is sweltering! This thing they call the Sun is kind of annoying but Mr Breeze makes it all nice again.
Mummy and Baaba were a little worried about my temperature yesterday but all was okay the second time they checked it.
The only way I can get through to anyone is by crying, does anyone speak baby out there?! I mean really is it that hard to decipher?!
The nice baby nurse came home the other day to check on Mummy and me. She said I was a beautiful little half chan.
I may be half but I am one hell of a lot of Sakura!
Mummy kept the nurse at the abode for over an hour just shooting the breeze with Baaba about anything and everything over a few cups of herbal tea. Smart girl my Mummy.
I am growing by 80 grams a day according to statistics. I started at 2880 grams so 80 grams a day means that I am now 4560 grams! I think I'll hop on the scales to check that one out! If it's true maybe a little bit of Billy Boxer boot camp is in order!
Granny Turner and Uncle Andy are coming next month.
The first kin from down under to make their way to the ancient capital of Japan to see baby Saki, what a treat!
Daddy plays me loads of Jazz and Jack Johnson. My favorites are the Mushroom Jazz series and St. Germain.
I feel the rhythm........

One lot goes one lot comes.
Baaba left on Sunday, it was a very sad time but we know that we will see her back down at the abode in August during Obon which brought a little relief to the tears. Mummy cried, Baaba cried and as usual Saki chan cried just for the hell of it!
Nathan, Eddie and Mr. T came down to introduce themselves to princess Sakura Grace of the Crabbe clan the very afternoon that Baaba left in the morning. It was great to meet them they all bought lovely treats for the princess. Ah the homage that one pays to a cute princess like myself. We all had a great time, over doing it as always!
If there was an Olympic breast feeding event Mummy and I would enter and win the GOLD!
I just can't stop! Talk about addiction, this morning I did a marathon one and a half hours of continual sucking! Epic proportions! Daddy says it must be like the equivalent of beer to him.
Sometimes I like to make up secret rendezvous with Mummy and Daddy in the middle of the night. They usually take place two or three times a night and at irregular times. The schedule is based on whenever Mr. Dozy decides to knock them both over the head, that is when the fun and games begin.
For Daddy all I have to do is make a few cute little puffs and pants and he picks me up for a little stroll around the dimly lit abode, sometimes he changes my nappy if I so demand. He doesn't mind doing it because I pluck up all of my immense cuteness and give him a slide show of grins and toothless smiles!
Mummy is my 24 hour milk machine, she knows it and always does it without so much as a sigh.
3rd June, 2007
Mummy dressed me up in pretty pink today and Daddy started calling me coconut (I guess because of that sickly sweet confectionery in Australia called coconut ice) so to get back at him I threw up on his hairy chest and he called the goo coconut milk! I mean the nerve of this guy!
Then he started singing "the coconut song" to me.....
"gonna put it in a coconut and shake it all up, gonna put it in a coconut and shake it all up....." and so on and so on and so on.......... We play heaps of Jack Johnson (I call him Uncle Jack), especially curious George but Daddy's coconut song sure got me grooving and performing heaps of toothless grins!
Mr and Mrs Satonaka came over today with their daughter Masako, now 1 year and 4 months old. It was fun to meet them again (they came to the hospital when Saki chan was first breathing air) and to learn how how to cry when I am as big as Masako. Daddy picked her up and she started this wailing, I have never heard anything like it! So strong and done with so much passion, what a shrill! Then after that Daddy and her were best friends, when it was time for them to go home he even gave her a little cranberry cup cake in a foil hand bag which she began to squash like a pan cake (probably because it tastes better flat!?).
Yesterday Aunty Takako and Aunty Nathalia came over with Yuta, he's cool because he thinks he's ultra man. Yuta held me in his strong arms and even changed my nappy! Thanks mate, good job well done!
Everybody is being so generous with presents, I can't believe it. Mummy and Daddy hang around really lovely people.
Saki chan must be the luckiest little princess in the whole wide world!
Daddy had to go to Tokyo today but he'll be back tomorrow. This is the longest that he has been away from his gorgeous ladies. Mummy and I will just hang out and sit cool until he gets back.

BIG DAY OUT!
Today was my first time to hit the down button in the elevator, the first day to close the front door to the abode, the first time to say hello to the outside world, this was the cherry blossom princess's first day out!
I left the apartment in Daddy's strong arms, Mummy was two strides in front of us at all times, clearing the way for the princess and her body guard, all were nervous but all were chilled....
Mummy was the paparazzi for the occasion, I didn't have to pose, I acted like a princess acts, for me it just comes naturally.
We got outside to the street to find that the sun was bitingly hot.
The mission was to go to lunch then make our way on foot to Adachi to see the people that yanked me out of Mummy just one month ago, this was the one month routine check up for both Mummy and my cute self.
We navigated our way pretty well, I was directing Daddy who was doing a fine job as the princess carrier, Mummy was a little nervous but excited as ever.
All the people along the way were stopping and staring at me all the time whispering about how cute and teeny I was to each other.
After a brief huddle between the three of us the unanimous decision was to go somewhere that I could feel comfortable so we stopped of at M's Cafe on Oike just before Adachi. The two ladies at the counter couldn't stop gawking at me. Daddy laid me down on the booth lounge and proceeded to eat his chicken and burdock sandwich which I thought was kind of rough considering that I can't eat yet so to show how I felt and to get the attention of Mummy and Daddy I started huffing and puffing which they both knew was going to turn into something more sensational so before it got fully blown out of proportion Daddy picked me up and we went outside to check out the Oike curb.
Then it was time for the next leg of the journey that being to see Mummy's Mummy friends at Adachi.
We arrived at the pediatrics section of Adachi and all of Mummy's friends were there with their one month olds. Nice people I must say, Daddy kept on whispering to Mummy that I was so much cuter than the rest of the offspring.
All was well but my belly button was tied up again because it still wasn't 100% sealed, we were told
that this is normal so Mummy
and Daddy went back to being cool. I was given a clean bill of health so off we went for Mummy's check up. All was well with Mummy too, thank God! I don't know what we would do with out her! The only little problem was the prowess of the sucking machine (that's me) was giving a few problems but after a few hours and a big thumbs up from the lovely nurse it was time to depart for home.
On the sunny side of the street on the way home Daddy spotted a lady eyeing me off and smiling while watering the outside of her noodle shop. We stopped and Daddy showed me full frontal to the lady, the smile turned into a full face of absolute happiness, she said "today was a nice day with nice weather but after seeing this beautiful baby it has turned into a great day full of happiness and joy, thank you so much for sharing your baby with me", so there you go the cherry blossom princess doesn't just bring happiness to the immediate people around her rather to anyone she comes into contact with. Bring it on!
I love the outside world, it is full of so many new and interesting things to see and explore.
We got home and my pretty little eye lids just couldn't stay open for another second.
It was at that moment that zzzzzzzz....... land beckoned to the cherry blossom princess, I just couldn't resist.
What a day and it's just the beginning!
9th June, 2007
After my daily calisthenics this morning I decided that it was time for breakfast so I turned on the water works and the chin shivers to wake up my milk machine and her partner.
That was Daddy's cue to get up and watch the news while I was munching it up.
After brekky Mummy and I sauntered into the sun filled living room. Daddy immediately princess snatched me from Mummy and started to talk to me in some sort of gobbly gook language that was not only foreign to me but I guess foreign to all other species in this universe!
It went something like this "ging ging gang goong ging ging....." and so on and so forth. I smiled to appease Daddy so he didn't stop.
After that he was a whole lot of farm for one being, first of all he was a pussy cat "meow meow", then he was a puppy dog "bow wow bow wow", then he was a duck "quack quack" which after a while started to sound like a chimp to tell you the truth. All of these charades got me quite excited and I spluttered out a few nondescript sounds to which was when Daddy said to Mummy "look, look she's talking, she's talking!", Mummy graciously smiled and said a kind "really?". But come on hang on a second Daddy isn't it a little bit too soon for that kind of nonsense!?
Mummy and I ventured out of the abode today, me in the baby bjorn (the princess carrier) and Mummy on her two pins with a little cherry blossom princess attached to her. Off we went, me eyes wide open and Mummy ready for me to break down at any moment. No problem there, I was lapping up every new thing in sight!
First stop, the bank, to do a few transactions then it was off to this really cool design shop called, Actus. Mummy was contemplating buying me a funny T-shirt but the princess was still a little too small for it, but not to worry I'll be there soon enough, now is time to enjoy now!
Tonight we're cooking dinner for Daddy so we went to Daimaru food hall to get all the good stuff. Along the way to Daimaru a lady stopped us with her husband to gloat over the princess, I can see plenty more of that coming my way!
Dinner is shabu shabu and neba neba salad which literally translated means slimy! (my Australian side says watch out but my Japanese side says ooohhhh yummy!) Daddy loves it so I am sure that I will too.
While we were down at the food hall a lady with her daughter stopped Me and Mummy and she couldn't stop staring at me then she couldn't resist, she touched the princess! Not protocol but allowed if they're nice.
The princess fell asleep after THE TOUCH, maybe it was magic?
Now, I've been hearing rumors that I, Sakura Grace Crabbe, am not the author of these cherry blossom diaries. How can it be? They say. How can Saki chan do it? They say. Well let me tell you, I am the author of this diary ( with a little collaboration from Daddy on the big words) by my own pretty, cute teeny weeny self. It's tough finding the time to slip out under the radar but I manage. Mission impossible, that my friends and family is all in the course of a regular day for princess Sakura!
Daddy is teaching me Spanish sometimes so, hasta luego amigos, nos vemos arrato!
